the collaboration with Wind's
03/13/2025
Today I take you behind the scenes of the creation of the uniforms for the coolest bar in Busa. Busa, in dialect, is the northern area of Lake Garda. Torbole, Riva del Garda and Arco. A very popular tourist area, not only for Italians but also for foreigners.
Wind's Bar was founded in 1983 by Uncle, 15 years later it was taken over by Alessandra and later by her brother Marco, both passionate about the water. She is a sailor, he is a surfer. Anyone who has ever been on holiday here has been to Wind's - it is practically an institution.
A little “flash back” of a very young Janne… I used to come with my dad (a surfer) to Torbole when I was a teenager and Wind's was already “the place” to go.
When I met Ale we immediately understood each other. Their way of experiencing gastronomy is very similar to our way of experiencing fashion. We love craftsmanship, the care of “things”, but above all WELCOME our customers in the best way.
We like to listen, accommodate and welcome with simplicity those who come into our world. But behind the scenes we also like to disrupt and seek evolution for our artisan realities. We move a little outside the lines. We do it by insisting on "tailor-made" surrounded by the world of fast fashion - in Wind's it does so with a refined, fresh menu and above all based on suppliers in our area.
That's where we come in!
Let's be clear. Making "handcrafted" uniforms for employees is not something everyone can do. Each member of staff came to our atelier to have their measurements taken and to tell me how the work is done.
There are those who are behind the counter and have to stretch to pick up bottles and therefore the shirt must be longer. There are those who travel kilometers a day and therefore must wear clothes that do not bother, are easy to wash, are not too subject to stains, etc.
We planned the first meetings. We talked about colors, furniture, the other artisans involved. We really took a long time to understand each other. First we chose the models: jeans, t-shirts and sweatshirts. Then the colors. Wind's is an unusual place, in the sense that the public is really vast. In the morning the safeties of the area come to chat having a second breakfast, then there is the tourist (Italian, German, Dutch, etc.), in the evening Wind's is "the place" of reference for young people.
So we needed a stylish combination that would communicate with everyone. In the end they chose the sage color with tone-on-tone prints for the tShirt, a light contrast on an elegant color. And the sweatshirt is smoke blue, with the same color prints.
And then off to prototypes. We discarded and redid. Prototype after prototype… Once I decided, I ordered the largest quantity I have ever ordered at one time for a single color of fabric. And I was scared. It all seems banal. Well it wasn’t, not for us who generally make one piece at a time, not series of 150.
The girls in the tailoring shop were very clear. LET'S DO IT. And they did it. In fact, they are still doing it. They decided how to divide the work "in series" without leaving behind all your orders and they found the rhythm and the method.
Last week we delivered the first part, but it will be a collaboration that will continue throughout the season.
